  • Compositing question. Getting background image to ‘shimmer’ off main image.

I have stock footage of traveling real fast in a tunnel type scenario with coloured rays comming at you. It’s looped footage.

I want to be able to have these rays ‘reflect’ or ‘shimmer’ off my main footage.

I tried a composite in screen, hard light, soft light etc. Hard light looks good except there’s not enough actual interraction between the stock footage and the main footage. Just looks like 2 clips playing at the same time.

How do I get that look and feel that the rays are comming from the footage as the footage is changing? I’ve heard the terms bump maps and displacement maps thrown around when reading about compositing. Could this be what I need to do?
