  dv scene detection

  I have just captured 3 hours of video and did not have DV scene detection enabled can how do I split my scenes now or do I have to start again

  You can drop the clip on the timeline and press “S” to split the events at the scene changes. You’ll have to manually locate those changes, though. If you actually want separate files, you may be better off just recapturing or using some other program (not Vegas) that can detect scene changes and split the files.

  This will allow you to split out all the files by scene detection using DV time stamp, or optically.

  I highly recommend this software.

  Thomas, as you have already captured three hours worth, here is a way you can not only “split” the footage, but also sort it into useful order, if necessary.

  Open a clip in the trimmer, and as you identify where each scene begins and ends, highlight this part and hit “R” to create a Region. You can give this Region a name, and this name can be used for sorting later – e.g. A01 Car arrives WS …. A02 Driver gets out CU ….. A03 Peeps through window …. B01 Inside lounge room … B02 CU Face at window …. and so on.

  Now, if you click on the floppy icon above the Trimmer, these Regions will be saved and now when you view the clip in Vegas Explorer, Region View, the Regions will be listed. By clicking on one of the column headers, you can sort the Regions acoording to the information in that column, either ascending or descending (click agaon to toggle). So, if you click on the Region name header, the clips can be sorted in the edit order of your scenes.

  These “virtual subclips” can be lifted straight from Explorer view to the timeline, or can be double clicked to reopen them in the Trimmer. (There is a Preference Option to double click to open in Trimmer – if this is not enabled double clicking will send the clip or Region to the Timeline.
