closed captioning
I am starting an edit of a show and have now been asked if it can be closed captioned in vegas video. Is there an easy way to do this?

If you mean real closed captioning, Vegas does not do that. You need to hire that done through a firm that performs that service.

Wouldn’t that be a .sub file like the one that DVDA exports?

No. Those are “sub titles” – not true closed captioning.

If you can use the captions that will show up in the Windows Media Player, it’s easy to create them. Use Command markers, hit c on the keyboard, choose TXT and put your caption text in the parameter field. You have to turn captions on in the player, but people who need them know how to do that.
I do this all the time and it works great.

WMP captions will not show up on video tape. Here’s the basic options:
1) Use TRUE closed captioning added by a place that does closed captioning.
2) Use Sub-titles on a DVD giving the person the option to turn them on or off from a menu
3) Use generated media titles in Vegas to add the titles but you won’t have an option of turning them off.Edward Troxel
