    good morning, guys,

i just posted the following on the windows hardware forum.
but since vegas is my main program i would really appreciate your advice too…

i am looking for some advice on wether it is useful to upgrade my set,
or save the money for a complete new set.

    this is what i have:

    msi 875p-neo fisr
    P4 2.4 512mb
    4 x 512 Mb 3200 ddr
    2 x 36 Gb 10000 systemdrive raid
    2 x 160 Gb 7200 video data drive raid
    1 x 60 Gb 5600 audio data drive
    power 350 watt

    i use XP professional SP2
    sony vegas
    adobe photoshop and after fx

    i have 3 questions…

    – would stepping up to a P4 3.2 1Mb be worth the price? 500 euro
    – would getting 4 x 1 Ghz ddr be worth the price? 180 euro
    – should i get a bigger power supply?
(i have some unexplainable crashes, maybe power?)
    – is overclocking something to consider? (i know nothing…)

i would really appreciate some advice. i know i have to decide for myself, but i don’t know how much effect these upgrades would have.
if there are places on the internet where i could find answers to these questions, i would like to know them too.

    thank you for any input!

    robert.

I would save a little more and get an AMD 64 dual core system. 4 Gig of RAM will not serve much purpose in a Vegas system.

    thanks, gary,

would it be wise to get a motherboard that can handle two amd’s, or would that gain be minimal?

    i’d better start saving now…

Of course, TWO dual cores would be great – but more expensive.

    Hi dupperware,

I just came back from Amsterdam on vacation and what a great city to film and take pictures. I’m also looking into the AMD64 dual core system after seeing Gary’s results on August 14th on this forum. It’s the mean machine. My Dell P3 is driving me crazy. Time to move up to the AMD 64.
Best of luck to you. Moooooooooooooooo!

thanks for being the first not to just talk about the coffeeshops, and for pointing out Gary’s renderresults. unbelievable.
