Vegas 5.0: recreate video clips from corresponding audio clips

Sorry for asking such a lame question – this is probably the first and last time I have to use a video editing app in my life.
I am editing clips recorded from a DV camera, stored as .avi files. I am using the audio and video tracks contained in the AVI (the audio was recorded with the camera) – when I import the clips Vegas create a video and an audio track. Fairly standard set-up I guess…
I have always kept the audio and video in sync, so all my video clips and audio clips are cut at the same moment.
By mistake, I deleted a group of clips in the video track. Obviously, when I noticed this it was too late – as I had saved my project and reopened it in-between. So no undo.
However, the audio clips are still there, and they are seriously teasing me… Is there a way of duplicating these clips and turning them into video clips, by using the corresponding segments of the video stream of the AVI file ? I have tried using “Properties / Media” and selecting the video stream instead of the audio stream, but it doesn’t work (I guess because video and audio clips are two distinct objects in the application).
Is there any script doing this ? Any external utility processing the XML representation of the project ?

Except that in my case there were about 80 deleted video clips 🙁

Yes, there is a script that can help you. Excalibur will bring back missing audio or video from the remaining pieces. Just click on the audio, run the Restore Missing A/V tool, and your missing pieces will be returned. They will be added to a new track so you may wish to move them to the proper track afterwards.
