Im looking for information regarding the chroma shift bug that occurs when transferring media between FCP and AE. I read about it a while ago, having dealt with it myself, and am curious about the status of it given the increasing demand for this software combination.

Isn’t more a question of attempting to move between slightly different color spaces than a “bug”? We are almost exclusively DV at my shop and do not experience this issue with FCP6+ and CS3.

Well, when i had encountered this i was working with PRORES HQ telecined film (.qt), however to work around it i had to import my files into premiere and abandon FCP. I attempted animation and uncompressed 8bit codecs but two days of attempting workarounds and various codecs/settings/software combinations didnt help.

Not sure what the cause of the problem was, but it appeared footage manipulated in AE CS3 was no longer compatible in FCP 6.

To answer your question, the chroma or gamma shift that used to occur is fixed. I did extreme testing on this, using scopes in both After effects (plugins) and fcp and there was a real gamma shift of a value of .2. This was fixed in CS3 or some iteration of CS3 and FCP6. Its been a while so I don’t really remember whose end this was on, but as long as your project is generated in CS3 or CS4 I think you should be fine. If you take an old project and open it in CS3 or CS4, you may still have the problem.

Thanks, glad to know it was fixed. FCP is still a terrible NLE, but i guess since i would only be working on someones elses project with it then i dont have anything to worry about when FCP trashes the project or breaks.
