Best Computer For Vegas?
I’m shopping for a new machine – thought I’d ask if anyone had any comments on best computer for using Vegas – if there are any in particular preferred?
Currently looking at the higher end Dell & HP machines – anything else I should look for besides the fastest and most RAM I can afford on a Win XP machine?

I am a big fan of the “professional” line of computers from Alienware (not the gaming line). They look good and peform very well. Closest thing to purpose-built computers.

I’m using an off-the-shelf HP a844n P4 3.GHz w/1Gb Ram 250gb SATA plus 2 200gb SATA’s installed extra. Have 2 Maxtor One-touch 200gb Firewire external HD’s. Less than $1000 at Best Buy, not including the Maxtor’s, which I already had and Vegas 5.0d zips through its work just fine. I’m not into HD though. Also still using my original 17″ View Sonic monitor so didn’t get a monitor with the machine.
It replaced a custom, home built machine that was 2.3GHz P4. I can’t see paying $3000 + for a computer personally.
You need a fast machine with a lot of RAM. Vegas is not graphic card dependent.
/another personal opinion for ‘desktops’, stay away from Sony.

Gary Kleiner recently bought a new machine that he was very pleased with for a little under $2,000 I think – dual processor and the render time was fractional. Perhaps he will tell the specs and who built it for him.
