  Anti aliased off to prevent ripple?

  I am exporting a title roll as TGA image sequence from AE for film recording 35mm. The lines of text “ripple” (variable flicker) as they move upwards on the screen and the lab suggest to turn anti-aliased off in AE . Does that means going draft quality? The original design is Illustrator and in AE preview it looks fine. Apart from increasing the font size, any other advice to prevent this?

  Draft may look awkward. If it’s going out to film then chances are that it is a speed related thingy. Too slow and you’ll get a herky jerky effect. Best if you can ask that they run some tests for you and that you make a note of the different speeds that you set the scroll to. Also try to set opacity to between 85-90%.

  Could also be a field interpolation issue at their end.
  You may just need a slight bit of vertical blur or motion blur.
  Creating credit roles for external clients is difficult unless you and their engineer/geek can communicate precisely about frame rates.

  After Effects creates exquisite moving text, always has. The problems we see here are almost always easily cured by talking over the specific settings for the project’s output file.

  I’ve been reading your previous posts about working 100% in AE . We are using AI llustrator and animating it with camera tool in AE as we have both vertical and lateral movments, so we can’t really get 100%. Could that be the problem?
  About MJ flicker free preset, the http://www.mercuryjones.com/aepresets.html link is not working, is it available elsewhere?

  I am going to convert it all to 2D because I am running out of time and it seems to be too many variables playing.
  I already reduced opacity to 85% – made fonts bigger and imported a 100% size file from AI so I could disable the continuosly rasterize option. Still, when mported into EQ, the TGA sequence looks jumpy.

  I guess the last thing is to remove the 3D tilting and make a vertical movement and try the MJ preset. Is that still available somewhere?
