  • HDV Capture – can’t locate AVCSubunit

My system crashed. I went through the changing of the AVCSubunit driver to get Vegas to capture HDV before but can’t locate the file again after reinstalling windows. I’ve been through everything in Device Manager and can’t find it. I remember doing something else last time but can’t recall now. I’ll write it down if I get the answer this time.

Is this what you’re looking for?

    Go to Control Panel/System Devices.
Right click the cam, choose Update Driver. Choose to MANUALLY install it. (Don’t search, I will install)
Now, browse to the Sound, Video, Game controllers.
Then browse to Sony. Not the Sony Electronics folder. In there, you’ll find a driver called DVHS. Double Click it. It will update. You should see the cam come in then.

Thank you but I cannot see the camera listed there (System Devices).
I cannot find AVCSubunit under ANY section of the “Hardware Devices”.

When I did get this installed the first time I recall finally running it down in some unusual place but I cannot for the life of me find it now. Just please state the steps without leaving one out. What is the camera listed as?

Not being an HDV owner, all I can do is pass along what I’ve read in other Vegas forums. This thread from the Sony site may be of some help.
Failing that, send an email to tech support.
