I just downloaded a trial version of Vegas 6 to try with my FX-1. Following the settings in the program, I cleared the external capture in options>video and adjusted settings in the internal capture window, where I got the FX-1 listed in the drop down device selection box. But the capture window remains blue with an ‘unloaded’ message. Turn the camera off, it says, correctly, ‘device not available’. Turn the camera back on and the unloaded message appears. (And yes, there is a tape, playable, in HDV format in the camera). Any ideas?

I know nothing about the FX-1 but the following was posted on another Vegas forum. Hope it helps.

    Go to Control Panel/System Devices.
Right click the cam, choose Update Driver. Choose to MANUALLY install it. (Don’t search, I will install)
Now, browse to the Sound, Video, Game controllers.
Then browse to Sony. Not the Sony Electronics folder. In there, you’ll find a driver called DVHS. Double Click it. It will update. You should see the cam come in then.

Mike, thanks for the reply. I too have seen those posts. I have followed Lorin Thwaits procedure from the HDV forum at the Cow to get CAPDVHS working and it does. So I do have ‘Sony DVHS’ listed in the “Sound, video & game controllers” section of my device manager. There is no ‘Cam’ or ‘System Devices’ When I go to the control panel. I have ‘System’>’Device Manager’> ‘Sound, video & game controllers’. DSE and others have steered readers to the ‘AV/C Subunit’ dialogue box, which I have yet to find, it isn’t in my device manager. (WinXP Pro, SP1). Vegas does recognize the camera as the FX-1, it just doesn’t offer transport controls.

Just a thought – You do have the camera in VCR mode?
