i just got a kensington numeric keypad ( USB).
it doesn’t work for editing (trimming) in Vegas. i’ve tried it on 2 laptops and a desktop. once i turn on the num-lock nothing works. it does work with the XP calculator & Word.

does anybody use a numeric ( external) keypad with their laptop that works ( 1,3,7,9 for trimming) ?

Back when I had a laptop without a numeric keypad, I added one (Targus USB) and it worked fine with Vegas.

I use a Belkin ($12) and it works just fine. I carry the numeric keypad and Shuttle Express with me for working with laptop. I also have a small Wacom tablet.

They even make numeric keypads now that function as calculators when they aren’t connected to your computer.

I am like you: I can’t edit in Vegas without a numeric pad for the trimming, plus I have programmed many of the keys myself in Vegas.

Very much so. I have some no name Chinese el chepo USB numeric keypad and it works fine, WinXP SP2. I did try one of the Casio combo keypad/calculator pads and it also worked. Have you tried any others pads and USB ports? Also under ‘Device Manager’ can you isolate it and check which drivers it’s using. Kensington may have updated drivers for it. If you are on WinXP SP1 there is a USB update which is almost a ‘must install’ which fixed a number problems. If it is SP1 then chase down the info here:

Geez! Would hate to work without the numbers pad. Do all trimming, slip/slide etc with it.
