Hi everyone. I think I’m missing something here. When I use Noise Reduction from within SoundForge I can select the noiseprint region before I capture it. When I use NR as an assignable effect in Vegas 5, I can’t seem to do that. The manual says to open NR and then go back to the timeline and play the selection to capture the noiseprint but the focus won’t return to the timeline until I close the NR window. When I capture the noiseprint it seems to just capture from the beginning of the clip. Even if I select a region of the clip before opening NR, it plays from the beginning of the clip when capturing a noiseprint. Suggestions? Thanks.

It seems to be working normally for me.

I select a portion of the noise, open the NR, check the capture noise print box, click on the play button.

Can you explain more what steps you are taking in Vegas?

Thanks, Marc. I should have explained that I am trying to apply it to a clip on the timeline. It works fine if I apply it to a track, I can select the noise after opening NR. But when I apply it to a clip, click the capture noiseprint box and then click on play in the NR window, it makes the noiseprint from the audio at the beginning of the clip, even if I have selected a region of noise in the middle of the clip. Hope that makes sense.

To the best of my knowledge, you cannot do an audio plugin on a clip by clip basis like you can with video events. That being said, I would assign the plugin to the clip on its own track and then render that clip with the Noise Reduction and then use the new clip in your Project.

or…you can just open the clip in Sound Forge and apply the NR there.

Marc, I didn’t realize audio plug-ins didn’t work on events. Thanks for clearing that up as I would have kept beating my head against the wall trying to figure out the correct process. Now that the mystery is solved I will do as you suggested. Sounds like a good solution. Thanks.
