I need to superimpose one clip on another (sort of like a dissolve transition – but not transitioning). Essentially, I want to be able to superimpose 30 seconds of a one track on another . How do I do this without distorting clips that aren’t superimposed? I seem to have a problem with overlays but don’t know enough to do it the way I need. Thanks

Simplest way is to grab the top edge of the superimposed event on the higher track and pulling it down – this will reduce its opacity from 99% to zero.

You can also Add a Compsite level envelope to a whole track, then drag it up and down like volume.

Then you can play with the opacity of the lower track, or placing colour, pattern or gradient beneath, etc., etc.
