  • Hawaii vacation – which camcorder

I will be heading to Hawaii this summer for two weeks with my family – vacation time. I’m trying to decide if I should take my Canon GL2 camcorder, or my Sony DCR TRV10. The Canon is a better camcorder, but it’s definitely larger. Has anyone out there done a Hawaii vacation with their camcorder? Any advice?

The colors are so vivid there, it would be a shame not to use a 3CCD.

    Hi Stephen,

You must take your Canon GL2. I’ve been to Hawaii twice and it’s beautiful there. Also, make sure you have a memory card in your camcorder fo taking pictures unless you put it onto tape. When I go on vacations, I take my Canon GL2 & my Canon 20D with me. Make sure you carry an extra battery with you.
    Enjoy the Beautiful Nature.

    Not a question.
Take your GL2 with polarizer filter.
And please, show me the Hawaii nature!

Yep…I would vote for the Canon. I shoot with an XL1s and I live on
Maui. I like the color tones of the Canons over the Sonys, but that’s
    a personal choice.

Do you have any recommendations for day hikes on Maui? What about sites, events, etc. to videotape?

There are lots of places to hike, from the Poli Poli redwood forest to Twin Falls to Haleakala
crater and more. Unfortunately, Jaws (huge surfing waves) does not break in the summer and the whales are gone, but there is plenty to see. Also, there is a great zipline company up on the mountain:
