Emitter library status update
Posted by Alan Lorence on February 12, 2013 at 10:27 pmI’ve had “release the emitter library” on my to-do list for several weeks now, but it’s so difficult to squeeze in right now. I’m pretty sure I’ll be able to get it done this week or over the weekend at the latest though.
Sorry about the delay.
Alan.

February 13, 2013 at 4:50 pmWith over 3000 emitters in the library already it must be hard to come up with original ideas. So why not let the users
offer their works of art? If I look back at the very early creations the libraries were USER_02_02 etc. -

February 13, 2013 at 5:12 pmI’m always open to accept emitters from users, but there are a few potential issues:
1) Nobody ever says that they have some emitters to contribute
2) Are the emitters different enough from existing ones? (are they modifications of existing emitters?)
3) Do they meet my quality requirements? I’m usually pretty picky.
4) Do they contain images that are copyright-free? This is not always easy to tell, and could be a problem.
5) Time. It still takes time to collect these, review them, make small edits if needed, put them into a library, etc.If people want to contribute emitters, please do! You can send them to alan at genarts dot com, but please make sure none of the items 2-4 above are going to be a problem.

February 18, 2013 at 12:32 amI have read through the posts and I have a suggestion…
Make the emitters into a contest/challenge for the users to submit to. Have a different theme each month or two and then take the best submissions and release them as a pack. Tie this into a really good tutorial for creating emitters from scratch.
I would like to see depth charges/underwater explosions as one of the challenges.
