Emitter Libraries have disappeared from “Quick Load”
Posted by Richard Lyall on November 29, 2009 at 2:06 amHi
My emitter libraries are where they’ve always been, but they don’t show up in Quick Load any more.
To be exact, the FOLDERS don’t show up, but this has only started happening. I have separated my emitters into a number of folders (1 level deep only), but only the emitters in the root folder show up.
I have quit and reloaded, but no change.
How can I fix this?
Thanks

November 29, 2009 at 2:10 pmCheck to see that you’re using the latest version. Sub-folders in QuickLoad were not always present.

November 30, 2009 at 1:01 amI’m pretty sure it is – the subfolders were there the previous time I used this same installation of PI3 (3.0.4.1 5Jan2009) on XP.

December 1, 2009 at 1:10 amOk … I’ve tried some more things with no success.
1. Uninstall and reinstall, and reboot.
2. “Restore default settings”
3. Uninstall, clear out everything from the folder, and reinstall in a different folder.
4. Added the subfolders back in using the “Manage” tool.It is definitely the latest version (3.0.4.1) on XP Pro SP3.
But the subfolders are just not appearing.
I’d welcome any suggestions you have, as this is a function I use a lot when creating new libraries.
Thanks

I think there’s your problem. You create the subfolders in the “Emitter Libraries” folder using Windows, not in particleIllusion.

December 1, 2009 at 12:37 pmSorry – I wasn’t clear.
I have never created any folders inside PI3 – I always did it in Windows. In the “Manage” tool, I tried including the extra folders as new paths, but they did not show up in the Quick Load menu.
And anyways, the folders were visible before, and have now disappeared.

December 1, 2009 at 2:18 pmThe folders must be in the “Emitter Libraries” folder of the particleIllusion application folder.
For example, the default install location is:
C:\Program Files\particleIllusion 3.0so the folders need to be created like this:
C:\Program Files\particleIllusion 3.0\Emitter Libraries\folder 1
C:\Program Files\particleIllusion 3.0\Emitter Libraries\folder 2Now, if you’re using Vista or Windows 7 there may be some folder “magic” going on, where Windows shows you a folder, but it’s really located somewhere else. Maybe that’s the issue.
If you’re saying that you had the folders originally, then one day they were just gone, I’m not sure what that means.

December 1, 2009 at 3:35 pmThanks for your note.
The folders in question are located in the default folder “(\Emitter Libraries”) in the PI3 installation folder as specified.
By the folders being “gone” – they are no longer appearing inside PI3, but they are located in the Emitter Libraries folder where they have always been.
Even if I create a new folder (in Windows) in the Emitter Libraries folder, then put a library inside it, then quit and reload PI3, it doesn’t appear in “Quick Load”
Here are a couple of screengrabs
1. My Emitters Library folder
2. What appears when I click on “Quick Load”Thanks

December 1, 2009 at 3:49 pmDo the folders you created have any .il3 files in them? If not, they won’t show in the QuickLoad list.
I can’t really think of anything else.

December 1, 2009 at 4:03 pmThe folders in question have always had .il3 files in them.
Why would they not show if they have emitter libraries in them? I thought that was the point of creating emitter library folders? What would I be quick loading if the folders contain no .il3 emitter libraries?
Not sure I follow …
Thanks

December 1, 2009 at 4:17 pmOk, I reviewed the thread. Here’s how I summarize it — please tell me if I’m wrong.
You’re using 3.0.4.1 on XP. The submenus showed in QL menu as they always have, but then you ran pI3 and they didn’t show. You made no changes to your computer between those 2 runs (you didn’t install any new applications or Windows updates). You’re using the same Windows login account as always. The folders are in the “Emitter Libraries” folder, and they do contain IL3 files. You’ve “reset default settings” and that didn’t make a difference. You’re also certain that you have only a single install of particleIllusion on this machine.
If all of those are true, then I have no idea why it’s not working.
Alan.
