  • Need help importing postion data from Maya 2008

    Hello all,

I am having difficulty with importing the data produced by Stephen Porters mel script.

I have matched resolution (1920×1080) between Maya and PI, and matched fps (24); the data structure of the export looks ok:

    1 1350.884358 2140.824331
    2 1352.064981 2142.90898
    3 1353.016786 2145.010513
    4 1353.745917 2147.129177
    5 1354.258984 2149.265377
    6 1354.563045 2151.419674
    7 1354.665573 2153.592775
    8 1354.574438 2155.785529
    9 1354.297872 2157.998909, etc

I am importing the script by right clicking on the particle, choosing import, and using “tab delimited text (from file)”.

After the import, the data is offset by 90 degrees and translated way, way out of frame. I have systematically tried the different options- “Apply layer offset upon import” and “Flip vertically upon import” ball these options all result in the data not matching. I have also tried to offset the data after import, but while “Angle” will let me orient the data properly, “Offset” does not seem to move the path around at all. (I have never needed to use Offset before, so I am not sure how it is supposed to be used, but my testing in this has not demonstrated it doing ANYTHING)

If this project was a one-off I would just rotoscope the position and be done, but I have about 60 shots to do so I am motivated to get this working. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    thanks

You’ll have to sacrifice frame 1, as layer offset needs 2 data keys to work (in your case set them at frames 1 and 2)
