Did you make sure motion blur was turned on? Also, have you tried adjusting the motion blur settings? (Ctrl+K > Advanced)

Well, I’m assuming you have already keyframed it properly. You can adjust the ease-in and ease-out for the start and finish of the animation. Press F9 while selecting the keyframe, do that on each one. Once the motion is smoothed out with the keyframes, the only other way to adjust the smoothness of the motion is with motion blur. Adjusting the adaptive sample limit and samples per frame (up to 20 – 30) will give a much smoother motion blur for fast moving objects, and also take longer to render. And be sure you also have motion blur toggled for the specific layer you are working with. To get motion blur to work, you must toggle it on for the layer, and on in the comp window.
