  • After Effects darkens/saturates video??

Posted by John Felt on December 12, 2008 at 11:05 pm

    Hi

I put some footage into After Effects, to make one small adjustment to a couple seconds. When I export it, the video is darker and more saturated than the source footage-even in the parts I didn’t touch.

I am on the highest render settings into a quicktime. Does anyone know why After Effects might do this, or how I keep it from doing it?

    Thank you all kindly,
    John

The export format must be slightly different than the original’s.
    All i can think of.

What codec are you outputting to? You said you were using the highest settings, but in which codec? You should be rendering to Animation codec unless there is some special reason not to.

    Darkens and saturates?

This really reeks of this gamma problem that pops up from time to time with QT…

What are you viewing the footage in to make this observation? QT player and FCP will likely show you something different…I’d also re-import back into AE after rendering and compare what you started with to what’s rendered…

I have had similar problems, it might have something to do with the color profile of your source or AFX.
