We’ve finally released version 3.0.5 of particleIllusion for Mac OS X (and 3.0.1 of pIllusionRender).

    These are Universal Binaries!

Besides running full-speed on Intel Macs, there are many bug fixes, and it’s been optimized so it renders 10-20% (possibly more) on PowerPC Macs (compared to 3.0.4).

If you’re a registered owner of particleIllusion 3 for Mac, you can
    get the 3.0.5 update here

We don’t have a demo version of 3.0.5 yet, but soon.

    Alan.

PI 3.0.5 updater crashing consistently on PPC. PI Render updater worked fine. Any thoughts?

Just to be clear, the updater itself is crashing, not particleIllusion 3.0.5 after updating, right?

Same problem with MacBookPro 10.4.9 trying to update from 3.0.4.
    The updater “itself” is crashing…

Can you please email your crash log to wondertouch support? The crash log probably has “iPatcher” in the name (but I don’t know for certain because it didn’t crash on any of my test machines) and would be in your User\Library\Logs\CrashReporter folder.

    Thanks!

So, this version works or not on Macintel?

Even 3.0.4 and earlier versions works on Intel Macs — just under Rosetta.

If you purchase pI3 for OS X today, you’ll get 3.0.5, which is Universal (runs natively on Intel Macs).

The problem is with the updater (what you use to update 3.0.4 to 3.0.5). The one I released a few days ago (and removed from the server quickly) does not work correctly.

I am still working on this issue — hope to have it resolved today or tommorrow. If I can’t get it resolved then, it will have to wait another week until after NAB.

I didnt even know that particle illusion wasnt a UniBi, i never really paid attention, i guess that explains the slowness. Well, i hope all goes well and you get it fixed soon!
