Xray behind moving screen
I am new to AE and I have searched on here and other places, but I just don’t see exactly what I am looking for. If I have seen it, it must be way over my head.
I am wanting to do a short clip of my son moving a small rectangle in front of him and having it appear to be xraying him. I have tracked the motion in my clip and have an xray jpeg, but I keep getting lost. If I parent it to the null, it also moves. If I don’t it still doesn’t work. I have tried so many combinations of things that I can’t recall all of them Will someone please help me to get moving in the right direction? -

You’re probably trying too hard. All you’re ally doing is keying through the piece of paper on the top layer to the xray layer.I don’t see why anything needs to move although you can, once you’ve got your key tweaked, keyframe the xray to give it some motion (or use an expression to give it some inertia and momentum). This will add to the illusion.
Your rectangle is your matte, or key, into the layer beneath it. You haven’t said what the rectangle is but I’m assuming it’s not a keyable color like blue or green. In that case, you will be motion tracking a matte opening onto the paper as it moves around. Your matte will need to be hand drawn to leave his fingers in the shot and it will probaby change perspective as it moves around.
The underlying xray must be scaled and positioned to match the boy’s body. If he is moving, you will need to move the xray image and that can be motion tracked, too, to some identifiable and trackable feature that is not obscured by the paper or you will lose the tracking although there are ways to tell the tracker how to estimate off screen movements.
