creating candle flickering text
hey there. I have been hunting the forums and the net and finding lots of questions and answers on reducing flicker but not really much on creating flicker. By flicker I mean an organic random flicker. I have tinkered with strobe and CC radial fast blur forever and can’t quite get the look I am trying for. Something like if the text was emanating light like a candle flame with just a little bit of glow and the flickers you see in the shadows when wind hits candle flame. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I would first duplicate the text layer set to Add, then maybe apply a blur with a random value generated by an expression. (Math.random()*X, where X is the max amount of blur you would want, or use wiggle.)
Though that will only give you a uniform flicker. For a more random effect, maybe use a fractal noise layer as a luma matte?

Yar, creating a pulsating light effect is fairly easy using the Wiggler or the many Expressions that do the same thing with more elegance.
Myself, I’d shoot some candles.
