Hi, first off let me say I am amazed by Particle Illusion and the created emitters. I stumbled upon it while looking for good effects for my film projects. Many of my fave shows have used the program which makes me love it more.

    Anywayz, to the point.
I have been testing with Particle Illusion SE, the trial version that is.

I want to know if there is some way to create an Impact effect from an emitter using just Particle Illusion SE?

For Example, say I had an emitter like the Star one, shoot off and collide with something in the background. Like a person in a movie throws the energy ball or something at someone. Can I create an impact? Like have the connecting side expand somewhat then from behind fade out? Like energy is hitting an object and is being deflected? I’d use a deflector, but I can’t make the object absorb into itself when it collides.

This may be asking quite a bit, and may not even work for SE but I’m curious, I’ve a complete amateur at this and want to know if its possible.

More Examples: https://coolfun.wibwobweb.com/gallery/image4.htm I know its a picture but the ideas the same.

https://www.wondertouch.com/mpg/inandout.mpg Another quickie, how do you make an emitter go inward/outward?

Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

It depends what exactly you want the impact to look like. In the image sample from wibwobweb, it uses an “electric burst” emitter, and a different emitter for the “stream” of energy.

You can try decreasing the emission range of an emitter to limit the direction it “expands”.

    Don’t know if this helped.

    Thanks it does help somewhat.

I basically want to know how to make an emitter shoot a direction, and then explode or fade away when it reaches its destination.

    Sorry if this is confusing.

    Anyone else have any ideas?

You really need to give an example of what you mean — an image, reference to a video clip on the wondertouch website, something. I don’t know what you mean by this. I suspect what you want to do is quite easy, I just don’t understand what it is.

Im not really sure of what other examples I can give or any way to explain it more clearly.

Umm ok I’ll setup a situation and see if it helps.

Someone is chasing after someone. The person being chase has some kind of powers, so to slow the attacker down they shoot a blast of energy from their hand(An emitter like the Star one or any emitter basically) and it collides with the attacker, knocking him back and slowing him down.

Now how do I get the emitter to look like it smashes into the attacker and then dissapears as if it flew “Into” him or just dissolved.

    Does this help at all?

Another example is to compare it to a star wars laser shot. Ya know how they shoot the laser and it strikes the enemy? I want that but instead of a laser blast an energy ball or something.

    Heres another, https://www.thecharmedones.co.uk/Images/anim/cole_energy.gifits
a clip from Charmed but its the same idea as what I want. It of course doesn’t have to look this good, just when the ball collides I want it to “Shatter” like that or something.

I hope this can help define what I want. I can’t think of any better way to explain it.

Sorry that link may not work. Heres the the link with the GIF.

Ok Heres the previous GIF again if the links broken again.

The GIF example is the Energy Balls one at the very bottom. The lowest one, where he throws it.
The Telekinesis one in the Chris section where he throws the state into another statue is pretty good too. I want an impact effect like that too, not the throwing really, just the impact from any emitter.

Ok basically the Energy balls throw GIF is the best example. When it explodes onto the person.

Sorry, forgot to mention to click on the GIFs link at the bottom to get to the page.

Ah, I understand now. Basically, you need 2 emitters. The first is the energy ball (or burst, or laser, or whatever) that moves from the thrower to the target. Then you need a 2nd emitter that does the “burst”.

Don’t try to do it with a single emitter.

I took an existing emitter (turbulent plasma) and made it into a enery ball. Then I moved it, and duplicated it. Then modified the duplicate emitter to make it “explode”. This took a little work, and you need some understanding of how these emitters work, but it mainly involved increasing the velocity for the particles (and a few other tweaks).

This example was made in SE for Windows. There might be a problem with opening it on the Mac version — I can’t remember.

Ok I am starting to understand what you mean. I have a few questions though.

    1. How do I make the first emitter dissapear after the second emitter activates. When the explosion leaves I still have the glow of the first emitter floating.

    2. What program did you use for the example. I’m not quite sure how to go about viewing it.

Thanks for doing all this by the way.

1- You can either lower the Life graph, so that the particles don’t stay on screen as long, or you can set a keyframe on the emitter’s Visibility graph so that it fades down to 0 visibility by a certain frame.

2- Once you unzip it, you should be able to open it up in pI SE.
