Hi, I’m recompositing swfs from adobe Flash in AE. The Flash animation was done by an other company.

Problem is, when The Swfs play in flash player all is fine, but in after effects things like flickering lights etc are not working.

How can I fix this because lots of little details are lost eventhough the main animations seem to be working.

I do not know if can get new export from the company who supplied them to me.

    Hope there is a solution.

    Thnx,

    Adeeb

    hi,

Only animations on the main timeline are playable in AE, animations nested into moviclips won’t. I know it can be a pain but there are some options though :
1/ ask the author to change his FLA and make his animations, if he can, in the main timeline.
2/ decompile the swf with sothink decompiler (for example there are others) and then edit the animations yourself, but this means you know what you’re doing.
3/ ask the author to export his animation in mov or avi and then import the movie in AE. You can convert the swf directely into a mov or avi too using some free software, just google for it.

    hope it helps, best luck

Thnx, but I read some were that the nested movie clips can be changed to graphic symbols and then all should works.

I already downloaded a swif to avi converter and it looks great and above all it preserves the transparent background. The swif to quicktime is less quality and doens’t have a transparent background either.

I would how ever prefer to us the SWFs in AE of course to preserve the vectors. But the converted AVI is a real good quality and lucky we had the flash project made in HD 1080. The final needs to be ntsc so we can still do some zooms without loosing quality.

I tried changing the movie clips to graphic symbols but no luck. I even have the original flash projects but I am an AE editor not Flash.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    hi,

you are right about graphic type element, just that some nested animations can be transformed into graphic ones and some can’t.
For this you have to change the movieclip property in the library (ctrl+L on pc) from moviclip to graphic symbol then you have to change the number of keyframe in the main timeline to match the lenght of the animation, and finally change to loop or to play once in the property panel. I didn’t mentioned this solution cause it’s a bit tricky and you have to know what you’re doing or you going to mess the entire flash. If you’re going for this, just keep a copy safe just in case.
If you still need help you can send me the fla to check if you can go on with this solution or if the avi export is a better solution.
