It’s easy in a conventional 3D scene: Your wall is a precomp. Your door is a precomped layer nested inside a mask in the wall precomp. Your character is a precomp placed slightly behind the door layer. Create a new comp called ROOM and put your Wall, Floor, and Lights in here. The light obviously goes on the other side of the door and wall. Put the camera in the room looking back at the doorway. Open the door and light will fall onto the floor casting lovely shadows of the doorway and your character assuming you have used the right type of light and set the object properties to cast shadows and accept lights and accept shadows.

But explaining how AE’s 3D works is beyond these little posties.

This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.”
