  Video Camera Recomendations

  Okay so I’ve been budgeted an expense of around $5,000 for a new HD camera. This will primarily be used by our graphics department so I want something that can be used for great stylized shots. Narrow depth of field, low light, high contrast, rich colors, plays well with Macs and FCP.

  What say ye Creative Cow?

  Not asking much are we? SUB-$5000 for all that? Good luck.

  HPX-170 would be close, but over $5000 by a few hundred. Graphics guys won’t like the DVCPRO HD codec much though. And forget GOP cameras like anything HDV or XDCAM…graphics guys hate those formats worse.

  HPX-170 is the best camera in that range, IMHO. But you’d be better off with the HPX-300 shooting AVCintra. But that is just under $10K.
