Posted by Mark Crews on June 3, 2009 at 3:33 pmWhich input on the back of a Beta UVW-1400A do I need to plug my blackburst generator in?
Thanks,

June 3, 2009 at 6:12 pmRef Video (Reference) SYNC input (75 ohm load ON, if no “loop-thru” is used.)
Set the sync (Menu) to External.

June 5, 2009 at 1:12 amThat is what I have it plugged into but I am still getting a no ref warning. I just purchased the Black Burst Generator. Any ideas?

June 5, 2009 at 2:25 amexactly what black burst generator did you purchase.
Let me make some guesses –
the Horita BSG-50 will cause this problem if you do not TERMINATE the input to your VTR. The BSG-50 uses an open collector circuit that requires a resistor (the 75 ohm terminator) to complete the circuit.
If you were cheap, and decided to purchase the Horita BG-50 (not BSG-50), this is NOT a black generator. I have seen people purchase this, to try to save 50 bucks. This unit takes a composite video feed (like a camera composite video output), and from this signal, generates 6 composite black outputs. Of course, no input – no output on this unit. No free running black.
So exactly what did you buy ?

June 7, 2009 at 3:30 pmHi –
sorry, this is not a black generator. The Horita BSG-50 is a black generator. The BG50 does NOT generate black. You put a composite video signal into the BG50 input, and it strips the sync info and creates 6 black outputs from that. This is why you are getting errors.Return this unit, and buy a BSG-50, or an AJA GEN10, or a Blackmagic sync gen for $295.
from the Horita site –
The BG-50 uses any RS-170A composite video input signal (required) to provide multiple outputs of blackburst and composite sync for genlocking larger video systems. All outputs are derived from the composite video input signal (required), which can be from any source, including “off tape”.
6 BNC blackburst outputs
Two outputs can be configured as composite sync.
Black level can be set to 7.5 or 0 IRE.
Looping video input with terminator ON/OFF switch.
8 BNC outputs are provided on Rackmount and Short Rack models

June 8, 2009 at 12:03 am[Mark Crews] “how do you TERMINATE the Input?
“As I said in my first post: 75 ohm load ON, if no “loop-thru” is used.
(Just slide the 75 ohm termination switch on the reference input to ON.)
