  NTSC Sequence Settings for US Broadcast

  Hi,

  I’m submitting a documentary to some US film festivals and PBS stations and I need to convert our Digibeta Pal sequence into NTSC format. Which settings do I use on my sequence in my Final Cut Project?

  i.e.

  Aspect Ratio, is it NTSC (4:3) or NTSC DV (3:2)?

  Pixel Aspect Ratio, is it Square, or NTSC CCIR 601 / DV (720×480)?

  I’ve tried all the above combinations and it seems to cut off part of the image, is this unavoidable when converting from PAL to NTSC?

  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  You need to set your sequence to 720×486 CCIR 601 NTSC (40:27) It will not cut off any of the image and 720 x 486 is what you should be set to for broadcast. 720 x 480 is for DVDs. Personally, I would just send the Digibeta Pal to a transfer house and have them transfer the Pal tape to a Digibeta NTSC tape. (or what ever tape format the station will take it in,)
