  Progressive Footage for Broadcast

  I’ve been delivering interlaced dubs for local broadcast projects, but would like to try shooting progressive for improved chroma-key results. Will I need to convert the master back to interlaced in some way before dubs are made? How would this be done in Final Cut Studio? Is this even possible?

  My edit system allows me to use either interlaced or progressive on the timeline so often the background footage is interlaced and the key is progressive. On moving type, this sometimes eliminates jitter that makes the words blurry. I also import graphic files (usually tif format) as progressive so when I do moves on the picture the video stays sharp. Since CCIR 601 (standard definition) video is interlaced, my projects are set up and eventually output as interlaced. HTH
