  UVW 1800 Error Code 02-255

  Hello,

  I’m an old writer-producer who is new to editing with an AVID Xpress and Sony UVW 1800. I did a dumb thing. I was getting terrible video from the deck to the computer and vice-versa. The video slid across the screen, had lots of moving verticle lines and turned a deep bluish tint. I opened the lid to the UVW 1800, cleaned the drum with alcohol and cotton (thinking this must be my problem). Whether it is or was, I can’t yet know, because moments later the deck refused to play my tape or relinquish it giving me only an error code: 02-255.

  I haven’t a clue what to do, and would appreciate any help I can get both with the error code and for getting rid of the bluish terrible image on my UVW-1800.

  Are error codes published?

  That error refers to a problem with the supply reel circuit. It sounds like time to find a service center.
