    Using what codec? Are you rendering with that card or is it just installed? PC or Mac, AE version?

    mac, rendered with the card, thought you had to render using black magic codec, AE version 8.0.2., manual regarding AE is one page, READ MANUAL!!

    Thought you were unecessarily rude, nothing personal…

    Lori,

    In defense of bogiesan, he was only trying to help. That is why he has the disclaimer regarding his standard signature. If he were truly rude, he would not try and help anyone, just take other’s knowledge for free like so many others. I think his sigfile is very appropriate in most cases. Too many people just run and ask for someone to do it for them without resorting to looking it up in the manual themselves.
    Simply put, that comment was not directed to you and I have always found bogiesan to be both helpful and respectful in his posts – and I have read alot of them.

    As for your question, I am at a loss personally, I am a PC guy, not a mac guy – regardless of the great mac propaganda.

    Best of luck

    Rendertime depends on the used codec,
    BM MJpeg codec uses more processing power then BM uncompressed although, not much.
    On the other hand, uncompressed stresses your system more;
    Memory and HardDisk throughput are key here.
    My rendertimes stay the same unless I enable the videopreview while rendering, but I’m talking about 10 seconds on a 10 minute render !

    Videopreview when Ram-previewing in HD is more tricky,
    getting 25fps 1080p doesn’t always work.

    this is on XP64

    [Lori Newman] “Thought you were unecessarily rude, nothing personal…”

    I don’t take you or your comments seriously in the least. I’ve got really thick skin, man, comes with hanging here for ten years. If you get this figured out, please drop back and post your solution. It will help many others in the future who search the AE forum for “Black Magic.” that’s how this creativecow.net thingy works.

    Most BM users employ that system for proprietary and fast ingest and playback inside FCP or another NLE.

    A simple google session will land you tons of interesting information about Motion JPG compression. Using MJPG in any of its many flavors requires every pixel to be taken from the BM codec, mapped through After Effects, and then processed out to the BM codec again. Since JPG is a very lossy compression system, this involves tons of extra decoding and recoding, overhead that is totally unnecessary if your effects are BM native. AE does not support BM’s onboard effects, does it? Since your Black Magic manual contains no information on After Effects, you need to talk to Black Magic or drop by a BM user forum.
