    Hi

If anyone watches heroes you’ll see that at the beginning of an episode, the name of the chapter is written in text and “stuck” to a wall or floor, moving with the camera and taking the same rotation and scaling as a real posted object would.

I’ve been trying to recreate this using motion tracking in after effects. The motion tracker works fine – it follows the object extremely well and is always precise, but when I apply the motion track to my text layer the text moves up and down apart from the camera motion, and its been extremely hard for me to do it frame by frame. Even with guides I’m too imprecise.

The shot is a simple tracking shot over a countertop, I’m tracking objects of high contrast and they’re roughly in the same position as the text will be so there shouldn’t be much distortion due to perspective. Theres no panning or rotation or scaling. What can I do to make AE apply the motion track better?

    Thank you for your help

Are you applying the track data to a null and then linking the text to the null? You might want to check out Grant Swanson’s tutorial on text stuck to a white board in the tutorials section. It is probably what you need.

    Best of luck

Are you using the “Perspective Corner Pin” tracking method?
