    G’day,
    I have a bunch of video captured from analog sources. It includes periods of pure noise, good old fashioned unplug the antenna static type stuff.

    These cause the peak bitrate to blow out and the codec [mpeg2video] to complain with rc_buffer_underflow errors. This, in turn, makes your average DVD player bail on the result [mplayer et al are more polite]

    I’m just doing..

    ffmpeg –target pal-dvd

    sometimes with the bit-rate wound back based on a guestimated run time but that doesn’t seem to make any difference.

    I can’t find a way to explain to it that I don’t care how badly it squashes the noise, it just needs to do it seriously enough to avoid the under run, I don’t care if it’s one bit per macro-block.

    Short of logging all the errors to find the patches of crap and using that build to a script to paint black over them I don’t know how to fix this.

    Anyone got any bright ideas?
