So I have all this VHS material that I captured with an application that came with the USB Adaptor connected to the VHS machine. Everything got captured in Avid DV codec and then imported to Avid for editing.

In Sorenson Squeeze I’ve experimented with different options when it came to 1-pass and multipass and I just had an instance where the multipass version made a big pixel error where the image pixels kind of got stuck in the video and that didn’t happen in the 1 pass version. The quality isn’t noticeably better in the multipass version so now I’m thinking that I should just do everything one-pass? The versions I’m making are just for viewing on the internet, so low bitrate.

This seems to me to be just ridiculous is it because the multipass is overdoing the analyzing of the video?

Tried 2-pass VBR and that also performed better than multipass.

I have squeeze, but never used it – is it better than compressor? – I always used 2 pass VBR on anything I encode… just me, but it’s pretty quick with a multi-mac set up.
