  Shatter-Alpha Problem

  Hey, I’m trying to get a circular image to shatter. What I want is the circular image (which is in rows across and down) to shatter out JUST the circular portion, like coins 😉 and I want them to shatter intact, one circular piece. What I’m getting is just the circular portion shattering, but its shattering into a thousand pieces, I tried painting an alpha channel in PhotoShop, but all that did was not knock out the black in between each circular object. That IS a desired effect but not exactly what I’m looking for, is there a setting somewhere I’m missing?

  if you create your rows and columns of circles in a comp so that the circles are opaque and there is no background, then bring that comp into a new comp. then create a new solid and apply shatter, choose ‘custom’ for the shape pattern and set the circle comp as the custom shatter.

  now when the shatter happens, only the circles (coins) should fly out over a transparent background… is that what you were looking for?

  you can also define other layers or colors as textures for the front, back and sides or the coins in the textures property of shatter.
