How to convert 1080p 23.98 to 1080i 59.94
Posted by Jack Johnson on August 23, 2011 at 6:32 amI have HDCAM SR footage with a frame rate of 23.98. I have to deliver 1080i59.94.
Which settings should I use to convert the 23.98 footage to 1080i59.94. I’ve tried the advanced conversion built into Apple Compressor but the image stutters.
Any ideas?

I believe all you may need to do is set the destination frame rate in Quicktime settings to 29.97 and set interlacing. Compressor will add the 3:2 pull down. I’ve seen some mentioning that it’s best to set interlacing in Frame Controls (Top or Bottom Field as needed and I believe yours would be Top).In the Frame Controls tab in the Inspector window, activate these features (click the “gear” and choose “On” from the Frame Controls pop-up menu).
Leave all settings at their defaults, except for Output Fields, which you should change to the proper setting, depending on your video codec and frame size. The remaining settings should be (untouched): Resize Filter Better; Deinterlace Fast; Adaptive Details Checked; Anti-alias and Details Level set to zero; Rate Conversion Fast; and Set Duration to 100% of source radio button on for that setting.
It’s been a while since I’ve done this so maybe someone else will confirm the finer details. All you need to do though is add pull down though.
