    Hi,

    Info as requested:
    MAC
    OS X 10.6.7
software: MPEG Streamclip 1.9.2, Compressor 3.5.3
    Pro Res usually goes in
    h.264 out
    internet use

Basically, every MP4 we encode comes out a little darker, a little muddier and a little greyer. It seems to be a common problem with h.264, but sites like youtube and vimeo seem to get around it.

I know the basics of compression, and how to use the software, but i can’t seem to find any information on this problem. I have searched, both here and the web. There are mentions of it, but not solid solutions. Is it just that the software we’re using is not the best? I assumed h.264 was standardised, but i’m guessing i’m wrong.

    thanks

    Gene

It’s probably a “gamma curve” thing. Those have come up a few times so have a search for that.
