PC based transcoding software
I have a client that is sending me video from all over the world in all types of file formats. (flip cams are either going to kill me or make me rich) They want them edited into various configurations. To transcode I am using Episode Pro, Adobe Encoder & Compressor (Mac OSX 10.6.4-FCS3, CS5). I’ve come across several .avi files that will only play on my PC w/ media player. On one of the files I guessed that it was not really an avi and changed the suffix to wmv and it played fine (in both PC & Mac). On another I was able to transcode (on the PC using freeware software)the avi to mp4 then get it to ProRes to edit.
I was looking for a recommendation for an inexpensive PC based transcoding software that would get me from the avi, ACVHDs and others to ProRes or DVCPro 25,50 HD, or perhaps a Photojpeg. This doesn’t happen that often, and I certainly have good solid transcoding options in Mac land, so price is a consideration.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Cheers,
