Book Recommendation?
I’m looking for a book that describes and explains the most practical methods for encoding video for Web delivery.
I’m a video producer with more than 20 years experience creating educational/training videos. I want to improve the quality of the videos I archive to the Web for on-demand viewing. Specifically, I’d like to learn how best to optimize the end user’s experience. Ideally, this book will provide an overview of best practices for producing professional-level video as well as an understanding of the process, potential and limitations of Web video.
I’m NOT interested in an exhaustive explanation of the science/technology of encoding. Rather, I’m looking for a comprehensive practical guide.

Since the technology changes so quickly the best place to learn may not be a book.

Yes, Saw the review. Sampled the ’07 version on Amazon. Hoping for a more current pub, for the reason you mention. Problem I find with ALL online help, it’s very specific, doesn’t provide the necessary background/overview. I think the best approach to get up to speed will be to combine a book (for the big picture) with online resources.

The 2nd edition is from 2009 I believe. The 1st from 2002.
The problem with books is that the industry changes too fast for books to keep up with. The Waggoner book will certainly give you a very good technical grounding though.There’s this book by Andy Beach but it’s early 2008 which already makes it very dated.

There’s this DVD (Acrobat Reader PDF) from Jan Ozer, the creator of the learning center site but the site is more current.
