create 4×3 with Pillars in compressor for H264 1920×1080 output
I have exported 4×3 video as a qt ref file. I have to provide my client with various formats, one of which is an H264 1920×1080 file with pillars. Is there any way in compressor to do this without going back into FCP and creating a new sequence, rendering and then re-outputting? I have 27 videos to do this for.

Sure. This will work with a self-contained QT, so I assume it will work with the ref movie.
First, just confirming that you source is 4×3 SD.
If so, in Compressor there are two sections in the Inspector palette to pay attention to. In the “Frame Conrols” tab, click the little gear button and turn the settings to “On”. For resizing filter, turn that to “Best” if time isn’t an issue, as you will be upconverting these while maintaining aspect ratio.
In the “Geometry” tab, under dimension select “1920×1080” and under “Output Image” in the “Padding” section you want to select “Preserve Source Aspect Ratio”.

Thanks Andrew! That worked except for one little thing…there is a thin green line on the left edge of the 4X3 video – its maybe 2 pixels big and the color of green screen. Anything I can do to get rid of that?

That’s odd. Do you not see it on the original source video? It could be some sort of encoding artifact. Could you post a screenshot?
