  Best compression for 1080P?

  Windows
  XP SP3
  After Effects CS3
  Not sure of codec in. MP4 extension
  Would like MP4 out
  Television

  I’m having some trouble with my rendering in After Effects. I’m adding 3D titles to a 1.5 minute movie filmed in 1080p. The original file size was 1.5GB or there abouts. When I render I’m getting ridiculous file sizes. 40-50GB I’d estimate. I’ve been stopping them since that’s obviously not what I want. I need to be able to get the file size down to close to the original, without losing any quality. Also the renders are taking upwards of 4 hours. Is that normal?

  What settings should I plug into the AE renderer to get what I’m looking for?

  Output for Television? They should have given you deliverable specs. Whether DGFastchannel or Cable provider, that always give you the specs.

  Data rate determines file size and of course impacts quality.

  I’d recommend against using AE for a compression tool.

  Generally broadcasters want MPEG2 Program or Transport Streams. A few are taking H.264.
