  • My codec for H.264 bitrate problem.

Posted by Pengchon Vann on June 8, 2010 at 9:39 pm

I am using Adobe premiere Pro cs4
I notice when I try to set the bitrate as high as possible, the max comes up to 144,000.

Now my problem is, I’m not sure if this is the max or I’m limited.

I think my h.264 codec bitrate setting is damage, and I have no ways to fix it.

    Here is what I did.
    I made several test.
    For a 720×480 5minute video using h.264 codec.
    set bitrate 500 = 93,024kb
    set bitrate 1000 = 93,024kb
    set bitrate 5000 = 93,024kb
    set bitrate 20,000 = 93,024kb

Now after setting the bitrate to different rates, why does all the files comes out to be the same size?

[Pengchon Vann] “the max comes up to 144,000”

144,000 of what? Kilobits or Megabits?

    [Pengchon Vann] “set bitrate 500 = 93,024kb “

    500 of what?

93,024 – are you sure that’s Kilobits, not KiloBytes?

sorry, I meant the 5minute video comes out to about 93 megs, even when the bitrate are changed to anything.

    Megabites or MegaBytes?

    I’ll assume MegaBytes (MB)

A quick calculation tells me that the video is using 2.48 Megabits per second.

    What is the video of?

yeah thats the problem it is running around 2.68 megabytes per second.
I tried to make it 5 or more megabytes per second by increasing the bitrate setting as you have read in the first post, but after doing all the different bitrate, the video comes out the same size.
