  • high end output; which codec to use in FCP?

I have shot 1920×1080 H.264 footage for video art with my Canon 5d mark II. I want to edit it in FCP 6.0 and beam the final result with a fullHD beamer, playing either from a Mac or from a blu-ray player.
Which codecs can I use best for importing in FCP and for exporting out of it? And which settings? I would like to preserve the highest possible image quality!
    Thanks for help!

Apple Prores into FCP for editing and H.264 out of FCP for playback

    Thanks Daniel.

I did as you advised, yet there was a lot of noise visible in the more monochrome parts of the beamed projection. Do you know what can be done about this?

If your source is clean and you used the high quality ProRes Codec and then exported it to H.264 with high quality settings then I’m not sure where the noise came from.

Can you describe this noise or post a picture of it?

I guess my source was clean and I used the high quality ProRes Codec and then exported it to H.264 with high quality settings.

The noise consists of oscillating ‘pixel-clusters’ in the almost monochrome area’s. It becomes less when I reduce the contrast and the lightness of the beamer – but then the projection becomes so dull.

    Thanks for your help!
