  Best format for compressing graphics for the web

  Hi, I’m trying to figure out how to prepare my graphics reel for web viewing. Each time I compress it in Flash Media Encoder CS4, it looks very pixelated. Especially in dissolves. I see other sites that compress very well and the titles and graphics look sharp as a tac even in motion. What am I not doing?

  These are my current settings:

  FLV
  Codec: Sorenson Spark
  Resize video from DV to 480×320
  Frame Rate 30
  Bitrate Encoding: CBR
  Encoding Pass: One
  Bitrate: 1600

  Any help would be great!

  ACK! Why would you choose to use this antique?

  One very important way to learn about compression is to download the videos you see on other sites that look good and examine the specs.

  Download video from YouTube or Vimeo and you’ll likely see H.264. In some cases on some sites it’ll be On2VP6.

  Why are you choosing these settings? Are you using a Flash Streaming Server?
  CBR = Constant Bit Rate, which ensures there’s no extra bits to use in transitions for example
  Use Two Pass VBR.

  I’m not sure if Adobe Media Encoder CS4 has presets but it would certainly be a good place to start if it does. If you look at the “sticky” at the top of this forum there’s a link to Adobe Encoding Calculator.

  If your source is DV you’ll need to deinterlace as well.
