I’m editing a video that was shot with a Canon 5D Mark II, and thus am having to use Compressor to convert all the clips from H.264 to Apple ProRes 422.

I recently got a 1.5 TB Western Digital My Book Home Edition External Hard Drive to store all the clips (since they’ll be big).

My problem: After creating a large Batch Capture with 29 jobs and submitting the job, Compressor begins to work, but after 2 hours my drive (or Compressor?) freezes and the job stalls out. I’ve tried it several times, and inevitably after about 2 hours, the drive freezes and the time remaining on the job just continues to climb.

What’s going on? Do WD drives have a 2 hour max? Is there any way to make the drive last until completion of the job? (Which is somewhere around 40 hours!)

Please help if you have some insight.

    Thanks,
    John
