  Best compression settings, 30-40 minute flv????

  Mac OSX 10.5.6, dual 2.66 GHz, 5 GB ram
  Adobe Media Encoder 4.0.0.374

  Looking to create an FLV 16:9 472×240

  The pieces are between 30-40 minutes long. It’s a two camera shoot of a live presentation. The presenters are moving a little on stage and I cut back and forth from a wide shot to close ups. Not much action but some movement.

  I’m not sure if I should use streaming or progressive. I’m completely unfamiliar with streaming and from reading around it sounds a lot more involved. Also wondering if I should use CBR or VBR and if if using multipass will be worth the encoding time.

  I also don’t know the average bitrate of the end user.

  Granted a streaming server is more involved but there’s benefits for long durations.

  Imagine someone having to stop viewing and quit the browser 30 minutes into a 40 minute progressive download. They’d have to buffer up to that point again. This decreases the likelihood someone will view to the end if interrupted.

  Streaming would allow them to cue to the point where the left of and pick up viewing at that point.

  Streaming should be CBR. Progressive download will generally give you best quality with multipass VBR.
