Activity Forums Compression Techniques VOBs to FLV

  • Posted by Tim Allen on November 11, 2008 at 10:56 pm

I have a number of programs coming from DVDs that need be converted to FLV for web distribution.

I have about 21 programs averaging about 40 minutes a piece. Ideally I’d like to set this up in a batch process and just let it go for a couple days, but Apple’s Compressor won’t read the VOB files correctly, and I don’t see any way to do a batch process through MPEG StreamClip. Any ideas?? I tried to wrap a dummy .mov around the VOBs to try and trick Compressor but that didn’t work.

On top of all that some of these programs when ripped from the DVD are in a number of VOB Files that have to be strung together to form the complete file.

I could really use some help on this one!

(And of course my client said they need this online by morning! Not a chance.)

    Thanks,

    I’d go:

    HandBrake to x264 or H.264.

Drop 264 into Compressor or Episode, transcode to FLV

You could use Automator once you have all your presets and droplets/watchfolders set up.

Personally I’d prefer to do it manually and keep an eye on quality.

But that’s why I charge more than most 😉
