I have two elements I’ve rendered out of Maya. Lets say they’re a pingpong ball and a coffee cup turned over, covering the ball. Each has been rendered separately with alphas. I want the coffee cup to particulate and blow away (wind) to reveal the ball. Further, I’d like the effect to have a very 3D feel to it:

I’ve been playing around with CC ParticleWorld, but I’m getting the feeling that no amount of mastery of this particular plug-in is going to give me what I want. I’m starting to think I’ll have to render the smoke out or Maya as well.

If anyone knows of something I can try in AFX 7, let me know.

    Thanks,
    Dustin

You can search the AE tutorials here for all of the smoke and dust videos. Most show you how to turn text into something that will blow around. Good places to start.

I don’t do 3D anymore (Infini-D almost killed me) but it seems your Maya objects are only 2D projections of them now that you have brought them into AE, yes? shatter will give them a real 3D dispersion but the particles are still based on a 2D layer. .

This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.”

Well in Maya I can use the cup as the particle emitter for the smoke to get 3D smoke that starts out shaped like the cup.

Hey, This is my first post, so sorry if I’m wrong. I think maybe the easiest way you could maybe (fake) this effect with Trap Code’s Particular. https://www.redgiantsoftware.com/downloads/trial-versions/

I don’t work for Red Giant or anything, I just used the plugin before and it has alot of settings.

    Hope I helped.
