  Compressing the compressed

  Delightfully, our editing station computer blew up and we lost all our original data.
  The only files we have of our 3 projects that we’d like to put onto dvd are on Stage6. They are 1280 x 720 and already compressed down to between 110 and 300mb.

  I need to get them to 720 x 480 and to mpeg2 to put them onto a dvd with minimal additional compression. Is there a recommended way or program to do that with?

  We’ve tried some things before including a program that compressed them minimally, but made them each their own iso file. That wasn’t so bad, but we want them all onto one dvd.

  Oh, I should mention the files are all .divx. That’s what they come in as when you download a file from stage6.

  What platform are you on (Mac or PC)?
  What transcoding and DVD authoring software do you own?

  PC. I have Encore and to compress stuff I’ve been using Virtual Dub and Sorenson Squeeze. I don’t remember the name of the program that made them isos.

  You’ve got everything you need.

  Create the MPEG-2s in Squeeze and then use Encore to author the DVD. You should get good looking MPEGs from t he HD DivX files.
