  Security camera files

  Hello,

  We have a Bosch DVR 4C digital recorder that we’re using to record Skype sessions. The recorder allows us to export files in XviD format.

  We want to use import these files to Final Cut Pro, so need to convert them to a FCP-friendly format like Quicktime.

  On G5 Mac we’ve tried Cleaner, we’ve tried converting with VLC player, Quicktime Pro with various plugins (DivX, 3ivx), and no luck.

  On PC we’ve tried a load of downloads (Win AVI, Alive Video Converter, etc, etc).

  We’ve called Bosch and they couldn’t offer any advice.

  If anyone can offer ANY suggestions or advice we will be eternally grateful.

  We are an anti-poverty charity and the Skype sessions are part of the World AIDS Conference happening right now in Toronto, so you can feel very virtuous if you help!

  Why not use a video capture card and capture transcode live on the fly to a preselected codec?

  Suggestions for capture devices are AJA IO, Kona etc.

  Hi Tony,

  Thanks for the suggestion. The Bosch unit is not exactly an elegant solution, I agree. It was devised by a consultant.

  As I wrote, we’re recording multiple webcams via Skype. I’m sure there must be a better way.

  Can you post a sample video clip some place that could be downloaded?
